Childish Gambino is just one facet of Donald Glover’s ever-growing career as a comedian, actor, writer, and director. He started self-releasing his early mixtapes in 2008, while writing for the comedy series “30 Rock.” He starred in the cult show “Community” and landed a Comedy Central stand-up special before releasing his 2011 debut studio album, Camp, a pop-rap project mired with overzealous one-liners.
He finally found his musical identity with his third record, 2016’s “Awaken My Love!”—which cast aside rapping for heavy nods to Parliament-Funkadelic and Sly Stone.
The same year, he premiered his award-winning comedy series “Atlanta,” cementing his position as a new pop-culture mogul.
